On March 17, 2021, Leonard Tambone, of Manahawkin, passed away peacefully at home with his family by his side.  He was 65.

Leonard was born May 25, 1955 in Bronxville, NY, the son of Vincent and Catherine (Scarramuzzino) Tambone. He attended Immaculate Conception Grammar school, where in kindergarten, unbeknownst to him, he would meet his future bride, Maureen O’Leary.

After graduating from Eastchester High School where he played on both the football and basebal teams, Leonard continued his education at Iona College, where he playedfootball and graduated with a degree in Accounting. Leonard married Maureen in 1977 and they began their life together in Eastchester, New York. They raised their two sons, Michael and Nicholas in Dutchess County, NY and Chesterland, OH. After their boys graduated from high school, they relocated back to the east coast and settled in New Jersey to be closer to family. He was a parishoner of St. Mary of the Pines in Manahawkin.

Leonard worked for Nestle for the majority of his professional career, retiring in 2019 after 38 years of dedicated service, most recently heading up sales for their industrial coffee and tea business. His family was always his first priority. In their early years as a family, he could usually be found coaching one of his boys’ baseball teams. As the boys grew, their time together was spent avoiding the trees on the golf course and trying to outsmart the deer and pheasants in the woods during the annual hunting seasons.

In addition to his wife Maureen, Leonard is survived by his parents Vincent and Catherine, his sons, Michael (Bernadette), Nicholas (Michelle), granddaughter Sophia, brother Santo (Laura), sisters Priscilla Head (John) and Ann Marie Rozmus (Gary), sister-in -law Ann Marie Glover, sister-in-law Joan Nangle (Larry), sister-in-law Kathy Delia (Ralph), brother-in-law William O’Leary (Renee Marsh), brother-in-law Christopher O’Leary (Millie Krauss), neicesKatie Rozmus and Lauren Delia, nephews and godsons Anthony Rozmus and Guy Delia, nephew Ralph Delia, and many beloved famliy members. He was predeceased by his in-laws, William and Doris O’Leary and his neice Catherine Head.

The family will visit with Leonard privately. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place Monday, March 22, 2021, 1pm at St. Mary of the Pines, 100 Bishop Way, Manahawkin, NJ 08050. Interment will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Manahawkin.
