Christine Verbeke (née Shannon), 84, of Secaucus passed away on Thursday, January 14, 2021, surrounded by her loving family.
Christine retired from the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey where she worked as an Office Clerk for more than 20 years. Born in Jersey City in 1936 to the late William and Anita Shannon, Christine later moved to North Bergen, and then Secaucus where she lived for more than 30 years. Christine enjoyed spending time with family, vacationing in Ocean City Maryland, taking trips to Cape May and the Lobster House, and playing slots in Atlantic City. She also enjoyed finding and collecting hidden treasures at garage sales. Christine’s bright smile, pleasant personality, and caring nature will be forever missed by those who knew her. Christine will be remembered as a devoted wife and homemaker, beloved mother, sister, aunt, and grandmother.
Christine is survived by her loving husband of 61 years John Verbeke, her three children Madelyn Bythell and her husband Tom, Vicky McErlean, Michael Verbeke and his wife Dawn. Also surviving are her sister Beverley Pinto, nieces Dana and Kathleen, nephew Billy, sister-in-law Mariette Muller, and her four grandchildren Abigail, Robert, Amanda, and Matthew. Christine is predeceased by her brother Tracy and nephew Mark.
