Barbara “Ginger” Ida Garrison, 87 of Manahawkin, NJ passed away peacefully late Monday, October 11, 2021.
She was born May 5, 1934 in Manahawkin, New Jersey. She graduated from Tuckerton High School in 1953, and went on to attend college in New York City while living in Hell’s Kitchen. She then returned home to Manahawkin to marry her childhood sweetheart, Larry, in 1954. Together they had three children; Karl, Nathaniel, and Janice.
Larry and Ginger ran Lucille’s Own Make Candies, now celebrating 96 years of business. They took over the business from Larry’s parents, and together, they expanded the business in 1965 onto Long Beach Island. Then, in 1974, they relocated the main store and factory onto what they called “the new highway”, Route 72.
Ginger was a lifelong member of the United Methodist Church of Manahawkin, where she was an active member of the choir for the majority of her life. She was also a member of the Methodist Young Adults group and various choir groups over the years. This year she celebrated 75 years of membership in the church.
In addition to running the candy business and an active church life, Ginger and Larry enjoyed local history, glass collecting, and attending pipe organ concerts. They loved to vacation at their house in the Florida Keys.
Ginger is survived by her children; Karl, Nathaniel, and Janice Eismann, her grandchildren, and nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her parents, Mary and Frederick Garrison; her husband, Larry Eismann; her daughter-in-law, Jennifer Eismann; and her granddaughter, Emily Eismann.
Visiting hours will be Friday, October 15, 2021 from 6pm to 9pm at Maxwell-Tobie Funeral Home, 573 Mill Creek Road, Manahawkin, NJ 08050. Her funeral service will take place on Saturday, October 16, 11am at the funeral home. Interment will follow at Greenwood Cemetery, Cedar Run, NJ.
