Mary Butterly (nee McLafferty) passed away peacefully with her family by her side at the Jersey Shore on June 7, 2019, at the age of 83. Mary lived a full and happy life as a daughter, sister, wife, mother, aunt, grandmother, great grandmother and friend to many. Mary was raised in Newark NJ, daughter to Charlie and Ann McLafferty, with sisters Ann McDonnell and Margaret Debenedictis and brother Michael McLafferty. Mary married her high school sweetheart Raymond Nicholas Butterly; she was a devoted, fun-loving wife and mother to Michael, John, Karen and Beth, all who married. Mary had 11 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild. Mary and Ray resided in Nutley and Maplewood NJ, with weekends and summers spent at their D.I.Y. homes in Lavallette. They spent their retired years in Pompano Beach FL, Moss Creek SC, Lavallette, and Lakewood NJ.
Mary enjoyed life to its fullest as a homemaker while enjoying golf, tennis and paddle tennis with her husband, friends, and children. Mary also worked in interior design, real estate and book keeping, and became an accomplished knitter. Mary and Ray became honorary lifetime members of the Maplewood Little Club, which was adjacent to and became an extension of their home with much fun, laughter, and matches with so many friends and family.
Mary's life will be celebrated on July 2, 2019 at Holy Trinity Church in Westfield, NJ at 11AM, followed by a repast at Echo Lake Country Club at noon.
