Lawrence K. EismannJune 5, 1934 ~ June 14, 2017 (age 83)
Lawrence “Larry” Karl Eismann, 83, of Manahawkin, NJ passed away Wednesday, June 14, 2017 at his home in Manahawkin. He passed on peacefully in his sleep surrounded by his family.
Born June 5, 1934 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Larry moved with his family to the Manahawkin area when he was in the second grade, where he met his future wife, and fellow classmate, Barbara “Ginger” Garrison. This “city slicker”, as his classmates called him, soon became a bona fide local. Larry became active in the community, serving as a volunteer firefighter for many years. Throughout his youth he was a member of the boy scouts and played basketball. In 1953 he graduated Tuckerton High School where he was the Senior Class President. Afterwards, he attended Drexel University for a short time before coming home to take over the family business.
Larry’s parents, Lucille and Carl Eismann, started Lucille’s Own Make Candies in Philadelphia in 1927, and continued the business when they moved the family to Manahawkin. Larry and his wife Ginger expanded the business to Long Beach Island and Route 72 in Manahawkin. With their hard work and dedication, the business is celebrating its 90th anniversary this year. In 2011 Larry, a great lover of history and a collector of things, was presented with the prestigious Paddle Award from the Retail Confectioners Association of Philadelphia in recognition of his dedication to preserving the history of the association. Larry was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He and Ginger were married in 1954, just one year after graduating high school together. They were married at Manahawkin United Methodist Church, where both have been a member for 71 years. This year marks 63 years of marriage for Larry and Ginger.
A true social butterfly, Larry was involved in many other pursuits and interests. He enjoyed hunting and target practice, was a member of the Theatre Organ Association, and a member of the Tuckerton Historical Society. Larry always loved to read and never lost his life-long love for learning.
He is predeceased by his parents, Lucille and Carl Eismann and his granddaughter, Emily Eismann. Larry is survived by his wife Barbara “Ginger” Eismann; his children Karl, Nathaniel, and Janice Eismann, his grandchildren, and nieces and nephews.
